THE HOME OF KU’S HISTORY AND CULTURAL HERITAGE
There are plenty of good reasons to visit the KU Campanile; Kenyatta University campanile is a center of breathtaking history, culture, heritage, university documentaries, archives, research materials and publications an is open to students, staff and the general public.
Campanile, “the famous bell tower” is a structure which stands as a landmark at the university main campus. This installation was made in to existence on the 1st June 2015 just opposite the previously known landmark of the university “The Monument” in an effort to remind people of the university’s ethos that “ELIMU NI NGUVU”. With its use of university colors on its structure, the masterpiece structure also displays an image of the university to the world whereby it has clocks on the faces of the structures as well as a bell at the summit that triggers alarm on an hourly basis.
Since the existence of the campanile on the campus in 2015, it has served a number of purposes, including preserving and displaying objects relevant to art, culture, and heritage, preserving artifacts, related to the university. Furthermore, it is now a place of research as well as being a source of pride for Kenyatta University. Guests visiting Kenyatta University’s museum “the campanile” will be able to interact with guides who will provide a host of educational information and will also showcase collected artifacts are arranged in each floor in a unique way. There are different ideals and perfections on each floor of the building. As you can see, the Campanile is full of artifacts and collections of historical portraits which are testaments to the university’s past, as well as to its proposed future, from the beginning of its existence. It is evident by touring the sites that you will find that a university does not only consist of classrooms but that a world class university is made up of more, as the founder stated once.
As part of this excursion to the Campanile, one will get the chance to experience the thrill of hiking up the skyscraper, since at the top; one has an aerial view of the university and its surroundings. At the top, binoculars are available for use as a way of scanning the city skyscrapers and the university itself. The floor to floor experience enlightens one with the day to day activities and an occasion that has happens on the past years. There will be an exciting blend of history, tradition and innovation in Campanile’s future, where art and designs will meets technology and creates a truly immersive experience, where visitors will be captivated like never before by its immense and interactive experiences. In the future, it will be possible to see milestones from Kenyatta University like it does now, as one will be able to watch documentaries about the history and culture of Kenyatta University, preserving and showcasing the treasures of our past so that the people of the future can continue to uphold the culture of university. A wide range of resources will be available for researchers who will be visiting the Campanile to help them enrich themselves with knowledge about the university and gain a deeper understanding of the campanile and university.
All said and done, the campanile is a place to experience a lot as well to engage our thoughts, university family to co-create contents and exhibitions, crowdsourcing ideas, stories and even artwork for the continuity and preservation of the university history.
